STIGMA & DISCRIMINATION To People Living With HIV (PLHIV) In Work Place

Stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV are still strong. Sometimes it is a problem to PHIV to find a job.

Former President of the Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC) chairman Tan Sri Zaman Khan Rahim Khan said HIV sufferers often have trouble finding a job and some even dismissed by the employer after the employee is diagnosed with HIV.

"Their chances for a living was gone. If they fired (by the employer), not only affect the individual alone, but his family members.

"Therefore, there is no reason to sack them (from work) because not all people living with HIV who can not work at all."

Her struggle to stop the stigma and discrimination against PLHIV never stopped. Until now many cases were settled by March

Community understanding about HIV should be strengthened. They need to know HIV is only transmitted through 3 way. It will not reduce inefficient workers infected with HIV.

So far in 2012, a total of 98,000 people were infected with HIV in Malaysia. This requires more understanding, especially to employers.
